How to Do with a Drive Having Bad Sectors?
Hello! I have some problems with my WD Blue 500 GB Internal hard drive. It has got some bad sectors. I know bad sectors always bring data loss. But, comparing with the data loss, I am much more worrying to lose this drive. It is really great and I also cannot afford a new one to replace it. How to deal with this drive? I really need it.
Yeah! Bad sector exactly indicate the danger of data loss. Therefore, you are supposed to back up your data well before the bad sectors cause worse problems.
In your cases, if bad sectors have not affected the normal use of your drive, you can straightly use the Windows Error-checking tool to fix it. Actually, Error-checking tool is an automatic fixing tool of Windows to cope with the similar problem.
Here are ways to start it up:
1. Right click the drive in “My Computer” to select “Properties”
2. Hit “Tools” tab to choose “Check Now”
3. Mark “Automatically fix file system errors” on the coming interface.
The automatic fixing process of this tool is not to erase the bad sectors off your drive, it is just helping you labeling the bad sectors and warning the new data not to save there. Therefore, this is not a long-term solution.
Furthermore, what’s worse, as the bad sectors increase day by day, this drive will finally fail or corrupt someday. At that moment, you may lose both of your data and drive.
Therefore, in my opinion, the most efficient way is to replace it.
